Elizabeth Edwards accomplished much in her short life, but her proudest accomplishment was as mother of her four children. A son John Wade and daughter Cate were born in 1979 and 1982. Tragically, John died at the age of 16 while driving his jeep to the family’s summer home on the beach. Elizabeth was deeply affected by his loss, and always described her life as pre-Wade and post-Wade.
Following his death, Elizabeth and her husband John Edwards decided to have other children. Claire and Jack were born in 1998 and 2000. Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004, Elizabeth wished that she be given the gift of seeing her youngest children grow up as teenagers. She was denied this wish, but though it all demonstrated to everyone that there is a purpose in life higher than oneself.
In addition to her dedication to her family, Elizabeth will be remembered for her commitment to health care for all. She was also an attorney, public speaker, and best selling author. She was a forceful advocate for change in this country. She will be missed by all who care about others.
